Nkombo's New Chapter: A Library for All

In line with the celebration of the literacy month, the Nkombo Community Library was inaugurated this Friday, 20th September 2024.

This initiative is part of the USAID Uburezi Iwacu Project, funded by USAID and implemented by DUHAMIC-ADRI in partnership with World Vision Rwanda.

The inaugurated Nkombo Community Library is located in Rwenje Cell, with a variety of materials donated by partners such as World Vision, Imbuto Foundation, HI, and the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC/REB) through the Kigali Public Library. The library will offer books for children aged 3-9, tablets for digital reading, ECD equipment designed to stimulate young minds, and laptops for use by the librarians. This resource will help children in the Nkombo to improve their reading skills in Kinyarwanda and support local reading forums, enabling community members to borrow books for both children and adults.

A special feature of this library is its commitment to inclusivity, providing materials designed for people with various disabilities, including those with hearing, speech, and visual impairments. This focus ensures that all members of the community have access to reading resources.

The USAID Uburezi Iwacu Project aims to provide children with resources that encourage reading at home and within their communities. It is being implemented implemented by DUHAMIC-ADRI in collaboration with World Vision Rwanda across all Districts in the Southern Province, as well as in Rusizi and Nyamasheke in the Western Province.
